Are we ready for a democratic form of government?
||When Marcos was toppled in 1986, the world rejoiced and was in awe at the abolity of Filipinos, to finally fight for their rights and be freed from the shackles of Martial Law. Then came EDSA II and world opinion was more skeptical. Then came last year, when the elected Queen, who was to save us from the excessess of a second deposed King, turned out to be as bad. EDSA III was the popular cry. The world was not only skeptical, it was now critical.
Not that Filipinos should predicate the course of their Fate as a people, on the dictates of world opinion, but each Filipino, especially the youth today, should dig deeper into their heart and soul, and ask basic questions:
Are we fully mature as a democratic society?
Should we have another EDSA revolution each time the people that got to power turned up to be inept, or worse?
As important, does changing the Presindency resolve the complex problems of the Philippines as a nation?
Are there better ways?
